On November 12, 2025, Elena Laporta Hernández gave a lecture entitled “Femicide at the Crossroads” at the invitation of the Museo de la Mujer México.

Almost 20 years have passed since the legal recognition of feminicide began in Latin America.

Today we are at a turning point. On the one hand, with resistance and threats of regression, in a critical global context of setbacks for women’s rights. On the other hand, a global, regional, national, and local feminist movement, with one foot on the street and the other in institutions, is confronting the reactionary agenda.

Within this framework, the conference traced the history of feminicide as a political and legal category in Latin America, addressed its impact and regulation in Europe, and explored the obstacles and challenges that remain. Finally, it engaged in a collective discussion with participants on potential strategies for action in the coming years.
